Jagdeesh is known for his engagement on interrelated issues of poverty and environmental degradation and on ‘systems thinking’ at the interface of ecology, society, and economy. Over his 35 years of professional journey Jagdeesh has led and built pioneer organisations like Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) as its Chief Executive since its inception in 2001 till July 2020 and subsequently, as an anchor and curator, focusing on influencing policy, facilitating knowledge exchange, and building a broad coalition for the Promise of Commons initiative.
Jagdeesh’s work and contribution have been recognised through the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship 2015, the Henry Arnhold (Mulago) Conservation Fellowship (2017), and the Senior Ashoka Fellowship (2022). His areas of interest include Commons, decentralized governance, informatics for rural areas, systems thinking and systems change.
Jagdeesh’s vast experience and expertise will guide and enrich PHIA’s work around natural resources governance and management, strengthening understanding and action on climate change adaptation initiatives and community management and governance of commons, among other issues.
