The Safe and Responsible Migration Initiative is supported by the Department of Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development along with the Consortium led by partner organizations PDAG Consulting LLP, PHIA Foundation, CMID, and ISB, for demonstrating robust policy action focused on migrant workers of Jharkhand over a period of 18 months. The initiative is focusing on evidence-based and data-driven policy-making on issues faced by migrant workers. The key objectives of this initiative are:
  • Increased social security and welfare coverage for migrant workers and their families through institutional policy and operational frameworks.
  • It will also enable the registration of migrant workers, monitoring and analysis of migrant workers’ databases, and systematic planning at the district level.
  • Mass awareness campaigns around Safe and Responsible Migration practices.
  • A Technical Support Unit (TSU) led by the Consortium will be set up within the Department for a period of 18 months. It will work under the supervision of the Labour Commissioner and other senior officials, nominated by him, to provide necessary policy, technical and programmatic support to the Department in capacity building, evidence-informed policymaking, interstate cooperation frameworks/MoUs, and support in providing sectoral expertise to the Department and its officials to institutionalize Safe and Responsible Migration in the state policy framework.
